If you haven’t been following the news, you may not know that solid state drives (SSDs) are becoming the next hot thing in storage. Your iPods have used these for a long time. But companies have developed enterprise-class drives that have substantially better MTBF (mean time between failure). Since a solid state drive doesn’t have spinning disk with spindles and drive heads inside like traditional ATA, SATA and Fibre Channel drives the seek time is much, much faster.
Well, the IT guys over at Samsung put together a video to showcase just how cool this really is. Check it out. After they build the machine, they put it through a series of performance tests. This has to be seen to be believed. Very cool.
